I've been aware of the peak oil issue for about a year now and I want to become more active spreading the word about it.

I'm planning to organise a meeting locally and would appreciate ideas on the types of places to publicise this.

I'm from a green background, but wondered about the backgrounds of others on here - what types of places do you frequent and where would be good places to stick up posters?

Hi Peter,
Personally, I've never been involved in any organisation. Just stumbed upon peak oil and thought I have to do something. (That said I have always been interested in sustainability issues, just never realised how bad things are!)

I've searched through Greenpeace / Friends of the Earth / Road expansion NIMBY's websites etc to find local contacts to get in touch with first.
So far only the road protesters have replied.

I've also found this list on my local council / library site.
Which I can use for a starting point.
Perhaps your council / library has something similar.

Try also:
www.greenevents.co.uk
(Although this has a South West focus.)
Also, keep your eye out for posters for green events in your locality.

[EDIT - Sorry this isn't exactly answering your question, but my thinking was that if you can get in touch with others and see what they do, then that might help.]

Peter,
Try the university, cafes etc.

I'll be up in York for a weekend soon ( middle of October) - I'd be glad to meet up and chat and help you plan things.

There are posters you can download on the PowerSwitch site.

- James
