You would think that they could extract it from the atmosphere.
At 0.04% it is probably not economic though.

I did read something about the US Navy being worried about resupplying jet fuel to their nuclear carriers and worked out how to synthesise it from CO2 and hydrogen from electrolysed water. Apparently jet fuel is the thing that needs to be replenished the most often of all supplies and they wanted to make it on board.

You aren't slaughtering them at the rate of 10,000 an hour though, are you.

CO2 is a nasty approach as it causes distress because air breathing animals have a CO2 detector purposely to avoid low oxygen levels. They don’t have a low oxygen detector though, so a better method that would not cause distress is to use nitrogen, and thus cause hypoxia.

AFAIAA CO₂ is the main gas used in food packaging. Look for 'packaged in a protective atmosphere' on the label.

Manufacturers' pursuit of ever-longer shelf-life (and deliberately promoted fears around sterility of food) may be at least partially to blame for the CO₂ shortage.

If chicken is in short supply you might just have to go to a "proper" butcher and buy some decent red meat for a change instead of battery chicken.

I have never drunk the stuff myself but I hear it makes excellent silverware cleaner. Coca Cola is a fabulously profitable company on the back of poor human choices in nutrition - just ask Warren Buffett.
