I suppose if you planted your seeds with a digging stick and harvested your grain with a sickle you could use every square foot in the UK for vegetarian fodder but getting it all planted or harvested in good season might be a trial.

It wouldn't be a question of rebuilding soils but building from scratch along with a drainage system. You would have to import enough soil for a raised bed.

We do "Pomp & Ceremony" and "Expensive Failure" better than anyone else in the world. It's part of our culture. We're also supposedly a nation of animal lovers, as evidenced by all the moist eyes over badger culling, though you'd be less than convinced if you saw some of the farming practices. The biggest problem is that the average Briton has very little idea of where food comes from.

Both the average Briton and the average American may get a hard lesson in that shortly.

Heard today that Vets have recently found four cases of TB in domestic cats locally but that DEFRA are keeping it quiet! The Vets are required to notify the ministry of any cases of TB in any animals. They wouldn't want to worry people would they.

Be careful what secrets you reveal. Moscow Airport isn't big enough to hide too many whistle blowers Wink.

I'm glad I found a Firefox add-on that translates any language, rather than one that just does Welsh!

I think you have to remain air side, so directions to it aren't needed, just a plane ticket, before your passport is cancelled! Oh hell, I don't have a passport, so I'd better start conforming Shocked.

I was asked for an interview with BBC Rado Berkshire earlier on and mentioned the local cat connection to them. When they phoned me back for the actual interview they said that they had asked DEFRA and it had been confirmed but that DEFRA wanted them to keep quiet so as not to cause alarm amongst the public.

I'll write a letter to the local paper and put it everywhere else that I can, including Facebook and here, instead.

That's amazing! The government should not be keeping secrets, whether about internet surveillance, or cats.

Nobel Peace Prize Nominations:

Julian Assange
Bradley Manning
Edward Snowdon
Ken Neal
