WorldChanging.com can seem annoyingly optimistic at times.

They also have a lot of really interesting stuff about world-changing technologies. It is easy to assume that technological breakthroughs are nothing but pie in the sky, but the fact is they happen all the time. Since the invention of the semiconductor, our world has been undergoing one of its most dramatic transformations ever. The internet followed, then wireless technology, VoIP; now it seems like there is a new revolution almost every day. The world is changing, and the "bright green" future that the WorldChanging people are always banging on about is genuinely possible.

As users of this site are aware, reduced oil capacity is likely to cause major changes, possibly within the next 5-10 years. Many are convinced that development of new technologies lauded by the oil industry will not materialise, compounding the problems.

But there are all sorts of things happening in the world of technology that will impact on our future. Nanotechnology is perhaps the most significant. Most likely, it will change everything. It will be ridiculous. A lot of people are convinced they know what is going to happen in the future. Nanotech says things could be very different.

WorldChanging has recently published a short introduction to nanotechnology. Read it here.

The Center for Responsible Nanotechnology is an excellent site for anyone who has fears about the nano-future.
