Meanwhile:

Paula Densnow writes “Well, well, well. I guess the marching orders at Davos included more than just focusing on climate change.

I see no other reason for a teenager supposedly focused, laser-like, on saving the planet, to come out for increased censorhip.”

Quote:
Climate activist Greta Thunberg has considered quitting Facebook, as she finds the social media platform's "lack of taking responsibility very disturbing".

She cited that it takes negligible interest in curbing the massive amounts of hate speech, conspiracy theories and lack of fact-checking that reigns on the forum.

Sharing her sentiments on a Facebook post to her 2.6 million followers, the 16-year-old wrote on Wednesday, October 23: "I am, like many others, questioning whether I should keep using Facebook or not."

"Allowing hate speech, the lack of fact-checking and, of course, the issues of interfering with democracy... are among many, many other things that are very upsetting," she wrote.

"The constant lies and conspiracy theories about me and countless others, of course, result in hate, death threats and ultimately violence. This could easily be stopped if Facebook wanted to. I find the lack of taking responsibility very disturbing," she added.

In conclusion, she noted: "But I'm sure that if they are challenged and if enough of us demand change — then change will come." The post was accompanied by a video that showed Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg testifying before House Financial Services Committee.

In the new report video from earlier that day, Zuckerberg was being asked about Libra — his latest cryptocurrency project, while he was also grilled for his organization's refusal to control hate speech or other false advertisements.
Youth activist Greta Thunberg speaks at the Climate Action Summit at the United Nations on September 23, 2019 in New York City. While the United States will not be participating, China and about 70 other countries are expected to make announcements concerning climate change. The summit at the U.N. comes after a worldwide Youth Climate Strike on Friday, which saw millions of young people around the world demanding action to address the climate crisis. (Getty Images)

On Thunberg's side, she has claimed that as the attention on her and her activism continues to grow, she and her family members are being harassed and bullied on social media. "The one who suffers is my sister," Thunberg told Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter.

"She is 13 years old and has to endure systematic bullying, hatred, and harassment. The people who write threats and hate to me do it to the whole family, even to her. The difference between me and the people who are left at home is that I am always traveling, inaccessible."

Just a day after sharing her heartfelt message to her followers, urging them to demand Facebook change its policies and police such negative messages, Thunberg also apologized to other celebrity figures who have been harassed by people pretending to be her on social media.

"It has come to my attention that a few people have been trying to impersonate me or falsely claim that they 'represent' me in order to communicate with political leaders, famous actors, singers and musicians,'" she shared on both Facebook and Twitter.

"I apologize to anyone who’s been contacted — and maybe even misled by this kind of behavior. I hope that those who want to sincerely reach out to me will do so using the recognized channels. The good news in all of this is that this just means we're having impact. Activism works. And see you in the streets!'"

The latest Extinction Rebellion protest in London to bring lack of action over climate change to the government's attention.

Yes, an excellent attention grabbing idea.
A foolish person whom I know said "they should have given the house to a homeless family, rather than drop it into the river"

I tried to explain that it was not a REAL house but was a SIMULATION done to illustrate the growing dangers from flooding.

The fact that they noticed it is however interesting.

ER classified as a terrorist group, by the police. Now rescinded.

Why so? Their stated aim is to terrify people into panic. Greta’s their spokesman. Trying to terrify people is usually done by terrorists, hence the name.

If an anti-Christ was ever going to appear, it would probably take the form of Greta Thunberg. Just sayin.

Just been listening to Radio 4 World at One's coverage of the World Economic forum conference at Davos with Trump and then Thunberg being given turns to address the conference.

It was an absolute f***ing farce that a clearly media constructed Greta Thunberg, a psychologically impaired kid who has come out of nowhere and, in terms of life experiences does not know her arse from her elbow, has the Western MSm drooling over her every word.

Whatever one's view on ecological issues, anyone who cannot see this as the bullshit it is has to be either ignorant or a special kind of idiot.

'Greta Thunberg, a psychologically impaired kid who has come out of nowhere and, in terms of life experiences does not know her arse from her elbow'

And yet, plenty of grown ups with life experience do nothing. There is nothing in what she says that is incorrect. Comments like the above are no different from the kind of tweet stuff that we have come to expect from Trump - condescending, ignorant, arrogant and straightforward bullying.

Agreed, terrify people. Into action though, not panic.

Yes, yes, of course.

Being deeply critical of the ditching of evidence-based rigour for adolescent hysteria is so beastly isn't it.... Laughing

She literally quotes peer-reviewed scientific findings in her speeches!

Unfortunately “peer reviewed” does not necessarily mean “rigorously examined”. There are plenty of examples of “peers” agreeing with the same wrong hypothesis while somebody getting it right was rejected for years, or even decades. The cause of stomach ulcers being one example.

Like bollocks she does. Or, at least, she does so on a very selective basis delivered with adolescent hysteria in order to promote the idea that the science is mind-numbingly clear (it is not), the necessary actions are unquestionable (they are not) and that her task is simply to “continue to repeat” it until we are all bored into doing as she instructs us from a platform that has been afforded to her by the world's ruling globalist, neo-liberal, capitalist class who would much rather we were all hyperventilating over climate change instead of stringing them up from lamp-posts. Meanwhile a bought and paid for, ever fawning Western MSM obsequiously and unquestioningly hang on her every word.

Someone once said that ecological concerns in the absence of class struggle is nothing more than bourgeois gardening.

They were right.

So did peak oilers. Look how that turned out for them.

Just as an aside, peer reviewed doesn't mean it is right. Just reviewed at a higher intellectual level than most folks are familiar with, or even capable of.

She is not psychologically impaired she has Aspergers Syndrome and as such she is probably more intelligent than anyone on this forum, and that includes Candy. She just thinks in a different way to the rest of us which doesn't make her impaired in any way.

LJ you have been reading too much "Spiked" nonsense and your intellect is being impaired.

Just because journalist Brendan O'Neill says a lot of things that you agree with politically doesn't mean that his opinions, and it is only his opinion, on Climate Science have any validity or even make any sense. Just because he thinks that doing something about Climate Change might hit the working class doesn't mean that the science is wrong and the problem shouldn't be addressed.

Yes, doing something about climate change without addressing the gross inequality in the world will hit the working class hardest but doing nothing about climate change and not addressing the gross inequality will hit the working classes even harder. Without doing anything sea level will rise, the rich will just move right out of the way and build/buy a nice shiny new house in a gated community and leave the working classes to sink or swim and find a hovel somewhere to shelter in.

The rich will be able to buy the food that they want, for a while, while the working classes will starve from the onset of the food shortages that are certain to come with a changing climate. The rich will set up their enclaves with food and energy stores and pay security to keep the working classes out. That will work for a while until the stores run out by which time the working classes will have been decimated by starvation and disease but the all rich's riches won't be worth a loaf of bread.

The only thing that might mitigate the disaster to come is doing what Greta Thunberg is advocating with her youthful enthusiasm and addressing the causes of climate change while, at the same time, addressing the rampant economic inequality in the world. Growth cannot carry on indefinitely and the poor will not allow themselves to be further impoverished so the rich are going to have to share their wealth or have it taken from them.

It probably won't be the working classes in this country who do the taking because they are, even the poorest, still rich compared with most of the poor in the world. It will be the migrants who will flood out of Africa and the Middle East with nothing but the clothes on their backs and a Kalashnikov and spread like a tidal wave across Europe taking what they can get on the way. And again it will be the working classes who will bear the brunt of this onslaught. It always is because they have enough to make them want to stay but not enough to enable them to move or to move fast enough.

The rich can just take their jewellery and cash and hop on their private jet and retreat to their guarded, fully furnished and provisioned hideaway. The poor will put all their precious belongings on their "cart" and join the countless thousands in traffic jams making their slow way across Europe as countless generations of refugees have done before them before they too are overwhelmed by the hoards and starvation.

Your current guru, Brendan O'Neill is so far to the left, LJ, that he has met the far right only he hasn't and you haven't realised it yet. LJ, you could go to a National Front rally and if it weren't for the banners you would feel quite at home as they aren't saying anything much different from what O'Neill says.
