Actually, to be fair, whilst mass vaccinations will have likely mopped up the final percentage fall on mortality rates, I would not be surprised if the vast majority has been achieved by potable water, better diet and effective sewage treatment.

I don't know what percentage to apply to which improvement as they came about concurrently. If it is your child it matters not if they are saved by vaccination or the operation of the water department or who gets the credit.

Quote:
Death in Childhood Is No Longer Expected

In 1900, 30 percent of all deaths in the United States occurred in children less than 5 years of age compared to just 1.4 percent in 1999 (CDC, 1999a; NCHS, 2001a). Infant mortality dropped from approximately 100 deaths per 1,000 live births in 1915 (the first year for which data to calculate an infant mortality rate were available) to 29.2 deaths per 1,000 births in 1950 and 7.1 per 1,000 in 1999 (CDC, 1999b; NCHS, 2001a).2

This decrease in mortality reflects a century's worth of advances in public health, living standards, medical science and technology, and clinical practice. Many infants who once would have died from prematurity, complications of childbirth, and congenital anomalies (birth defects) now survive. Children who previously would have perished from an array of childhood infections today live healthy and long lives thanks to sanitation improvements, vaccines, and antibiotics. In the United States, the average life expectancy at birth rose from less than 50 years in 1900 to more than 76 years in 1999, due in considerable measure to continuing reductions in infant and child mortality (NCHS, 2001c).

Antibiotics have had a massive effect on the death rate and there are big worries in the medical and public health professions over increasing levels of resistance in bacteria and the increase in death rate which will follow.

Getting back to Sushil's post, early agricultural man had a massive impact on the environment as the change from forest to agricultural land released a huge amount of CO2 into the atmosphere warming the climate to such an extent that it has warded off the next ice age and given us the stable climate that we have enjoyed until recently.

........
Happy New Year.......Belated Happy New Year, Power Switch.

Years have been changing on earth for millions of years.........It is only industrial man who has turned this event into a show of decadence and depravity.

Destroy the planet with industrial activity whole year and then party on new year eve to welcome another year of destruction.........Repeat this year after year.

Forests, Rivers, Oceans and Atmosphere have been destroyed.

Happy New Year.

Millions of land and marine species have been decimated.

Happy New Year.

The planet is dying and gasping for last breath.

Happy New Year.

Hundred years of industrial activity has destroyed what was created by nature in millions of years.......Happy New Year.

.

.

Mega celebration is a disease, insanity and criminality of industrialization and urbanization........Pre-industrial celebrations were very simple affairs because of the absence of electricity, oil, industrial consumer goods, transportation industry, communication industry, advertising and marketing industry.

Industrial celebrations are Mega Destruction Events, Mega Criminal Events.

Pre-industrial celebrations were simple and non destructive because they were primarily limited to prayer and worship, singing and dancing........Industrial celebrations are highly destructive because they involve selling and buying of consumer goods and services........Production of consumer goods and services has destroyed the planet

Production of thousands of consumer goods and services has destroyed forests, rivers, oceans and atmosphere.........Production of thousands of consumer goods and services has decimated millions of land and marine species........Production of thousands of consumer goods and services has generated billions of tonnes of plastic waste, chemical waste, gaseous waste and e-waste.

Industrial society is destroying the planet 24x7, 365 days of the year........This destruction increases thousands of times during the festival season because of excessive increase in consumerism.

.

.

There was almost zero celebration during festivals in pre-industrial society.........Imagine celebrating festivals without electricity, without oil (diesel / petrol), without manufacturing industry, without marketing and advertising industry, without transportation industry, without communication industry.

That was the way festivals were celebrated for thousands of years before industrialization.

In pre-industrial society more than 99% of people were farmers who had to look after their fields and animals every day......They didn't have time to waste on festivities like the urban population of industrial society.

There were no festival holidays.......The nonsense of festival holidays came with urban offices, urban jobs and professions.

Millions of hotels, restaurants, shops, markets and malls did not exist.......Excessive / decadent celebration was not possible.

People participated in prayer, worship, singing, dancing.......They cooked some food at home and made some sweets........Only simple food could be cooked because hundreds of ingredients for cooking did not exist in pre-industrial society.......Only local products/ produce could be used.

That was all that could be done during festivals in pre-industrial society.

There was almost zero discussion on festivals in pre-industrial society because the medium for discussion did not exist.

Comparing the scale and magnitude of pre-industrial festivities with industrial festivities is like comparing the Lamp with the Sun.

.

.

Industrialization = Decadence, depravity and unrestrained pleasure chasing.

Industrialization = Millions of pubs, bars, restaurants and parties.

Industrialization = Millions of tonnes of alcohol and designer drugs.

Industrialization = Pornography Industry, Film Industry, Fashion Industry, Sports Industry, Music and Entertainment Industry.

Industrialization = Hedonism raised to the power of infinity.

Industrial society is engaged in two main activities.........Destruction and Entertainment.

Work Hard.........Play Hard.

Destroy Hard......Enjoy Hard.
.
.

You can never escape from chaos, madness and destruction once you have created extra jobs and professions.........Industrial society has done just that........Industrial society has created hundreds of extra and destructive professions for its urban population which is not producing food which was the main occupation for thousands of years before industrialization.

Every job, every profession of industrial society is destructive.........Every institution, every organization of industrial society is destructive........Every activity of industrial society is destructive.......why???........Because you need Electricity, Oil, Buildings, Transportation, Consumer Goods and Services for every job, profession, institution, organization and activity of industrial society.........Production and use of all these things has destroyed Forests, Rivers, Oceans and Atmosphere.

Urban jobs and professions have destroyed the planet.
The entire urban population of industrial society is criminal.
The crime goes unchecked because 50% of population is now urban.
The crime goes unchecked because urban population is running the system.

If Urban Society stops its supplies to Rural Society it will live forever.
If Rural Society stops its supplies to Urban Society it will die within a month.

That is the worth of Urban Jobs, Consumer Goods, Growth Rate, Economy Rate and GDP.
.
.

Man has spent more than 99.9% of his time on earth in non-industrial societies.

Man lived in forests for hundreds of thousands of years........Man lived in villages in agrarian society for 10,000 years........Man has lived in industrial society (which runs on electricity and oil) for only 100 years during which he has destroyed the entire planet.

.

Industrialization was the biggest crime on earth.
Agrarian society was the limit for man on earth.

Stop Education.........Close down Universities.
Stop Urban Work..........Close down the Cities.

Did any one actually read ALL that post from Sushil?

I take it that EM is a NO to that question as I am! I did read the first and last few lines though.

A hint Sushil. Put the important stuff in those few lines and the padding in the middle.

When smallpox vaccines were mandated, the incidence of smallpox rose markedly. Most other vaccines were introduced in the 1950s and 1960s, by which time the number of cases were very low compared to 100 years previously. There is no vaccine for scarlet fever, yet the number of cases dropped in line with other diseases.

.........
Industrial society is a lunatic society where instead of stopping industrial activity countries are accusing each other of destroying more environment, releasing more CO2 into the atmosphere.

There is a multi storey building where residents of all floors are destroying the walls of their floors with hammers every day.......When told that destroying the walls will destroy the building, they don't stop their activity but accuse each other of destroying more wall every day.

It doesn't matter who is destroying more wall.......Sooner or later the whole building will collapse.

The entire ecosystem is interlinked.......Destruction of environment anywhere in the world affects and destroys the whole world.

If forests get destroyed in one country it affects and destroys the whole world.
.
.

This planet is very small........Just 40,000 km in circumference.

Millions of other species destroyed environment only for food.

Forest man destroyed environment only for food.

Agrarian man destroyed environment for food, clothing and shelter.

Industrial man has destroyed environment for food, clothing, shelter PLUS thousands of consumer goods and services.

Industrial man has destroyed Exponential Extra Environment.

[It is the urban population of industrial society that has destroyed exponential extra environment.]

The collective work of human society must be limited to food, clothing and shelter........Millions of other species only get food from earth.

Millions of other species have already been decimated by industrial activity.......More than 99% of collapse has already happened......Man is next on the list.......Human collapse will come with lightning speed now.
.
.

Urban jobs and professions have destroyed the planet.
The entire urban population of industrial society is criminal.
The crime goes unchecked because 50% of population is now urban.
The crime goes unchecked because urban population is running the system.
