EVs charged from wind or other renewables make more sense.

Totally agree......, but we're still a fairly long way from that.....
In the meantime....??

Are we in fact still a fairly long way from EVs charged by wind turbines ?

EV sales are on the increase, as is wind power capacity.

New UK EV sales are currently running at approx. 2% and are predicted to increase to 3-7% by 2020...
IMO, it will take quite a few years for sales, charging infrastructure, generating capacity to catch up, but we're now on the right road...

My guess is 15-20 years for them to get really established and 30 years to be the norm, but you might be more optimistic ?

Much of the speed of roll out will depend on the rate at which car manufacturers change their production. Some, like Volvo, are going for an early change and if they start showing an increase in market share other companies will follow very quickly. That would signal to the public that EVs are the new thing and we all know how many of the sheeple must have the new thing.
