The next thing you know, they'll be extraditing landlady Stella Roberts to Los Angeles for copyright infringement and throwing her in prison.

Every single day, just how much the USA sucks just keeps on growing. It is fast becoming one of the most loathsome countries on earth.

Copyright - in the UK, the Statute of Anne - was designed to protect *artists* against *publishers* for a limited period of time, 14 years. And here we have publishers, in the shape of the US movie industry, throwing their weight around like classroom bullies. Forcing the US govt. to time and again extend copyright for their own benefit. Acting like jerks.

By the way, Open Rights Group is currently running a campaign to improve the legal situation in the UK for the right to parody. Find out more here:
http://www.righttoparody.org.uk/why-copyright-law-needs-a-sense-of-humour
http://zine.openrightsgroup.org/features/2012/a-plea-for-a-right-to-parody
and do sign the petition
http://www.righttoparody.org.uk/

ORG is focussing on this area, and working with other organisations that are focussing on other areas of copyright law.

I'm not sure there's much "forcing" going on.

That sounds like a compliment compared to the phrase I'd use for them, which is unprintable (and not for copyright reasons).

I would personally have ranked it as the most loathsome country on Earth for at least the last three decades.

It's touch-and-go.

Having your boss in Arizona being able to fire you for taking the pill is the latest fun development about to hit the statute-books.

This topic was posted nearly a decade ago, so perhaps some of the predictions have not come to pass as the internet is still here. However there is now Article 13 (unlucky for some) which would severely restrict posting of material and even links to the pages. So would it affect what is allowed to be posted on PS?

Article 13 video

This would affect politicians too, as they woud not be able to use “social” media so freely. But since they are fairly sheep-like, they won’t see the problem until it is too late.
