Brent has reached $76, a new multi year high, though still far behind the all time record of about $140.

Brent just spiked down by $2 to 73.50 in about a minute.

Did Trump just declare peace with NK and Iran?

Clearly the market sees Trump s action on Iran as dangerous to supply. Brent tops 77 dollars

Brent now reaches $78, another multi-year high.
Presumably due to the worsening situation in the Middle east.

We've known for several years high prices are returning. It's less to do with today's geopolitics and more to do with the calculation and postponement of E&P activities following the period of <$100 oil.

Brent crude will reach $90 a barrel by 2020 as new international shipping regulations take effect, overhauling the types of fuels produced by refiners, the bank’s analysts said in a report.

Last night, Brent closed at over $79, the highest closing price for some years.
It has gone still higher today and reached $80.

Yes, petrol and other oil derived fuels are incredibly cheap if one considers the energy they contain and the many convenient ways in which they may be used.

A couple of examples come to mind.

Suppose that one needs to make a 25 mile journey with hand luggage in bad weather, that could take at least a whole day of unpleasant hard walking. Alternatively a reasonably fuel efficient motor cycle could do the journey in about an hour and with far less effort.
Fuel used would be very roughly 0.25 litres. Almost certainly worth at least £50 per trip or £200 a litre.

Or alternatively consider cutting down a large tree for firewood, a days work with an axe and saw, or a few minutes and perhaps 0.1 litres of petrol with a chainsaw. Worth at least £20 a tree or £200 a litre.

Fuel is so cheap that it's cheaper to avoid motorway tolls in Ireland. Satnavs make the process simple.
