A con trick.
The box MAY do nothing useful whatsoever.

It is implied that the power factor is improved, but firstly how does the device "know" what the existing power factor is ?
Secondly, a box that small and connected via a 15 amp 120 volt plug cannot make much impression on the power factor of a 50KW load as is implied.
And finally domestic electricity metering in the USA and also in the UK measures true KWH and not KVAH so there is no discernible gain in improving the power factor of domestic loads.

It just goes to show: make it and someone will buy it.

Yes, that may be a different brand, but I suspect that all these devices are broadly similar and that all are a con trick.

It is regrettable but understandable that sheeple buy these devices. What is more worrying is that large public sector organisations buy them.
Use in Schools is particularly worrying in that it gives children and their parents a belief that they work.

A very expensive but exquisitely packaged capacitor. The snake oil gene has a lot to answer for.
