Quote:
Among Chinese media publications, we often quote China Daily and Global Times. Both are strictly controlled by the Chinese Communist Party, though Global Times is far more nationalistic.

The Hong-Kong based South China Morning Post (SCMP) is a bit more independent than the other two. That is not to say that they would directly confront and contradict Beijing policy – if they did, Beijing would probably have the editors abducted, thrown into a pit and tortured. But they are able to print analyses that are a bit more balanced than the pure propaganda of the other two.

According to an SCMP analysis, both China and India are preparing for an armed conflict in the event that negotiations fail.

The article quotes a Chinese military source:

The PLA [People’s Liberation Army] will not seek to fight a ground war with Indian troops early on. Instead it will deploy aircraft and strategic missiles to paralyse Indian mountain divisions stationed in the Himalayas on the border with China. [Indian troops will probably hold out for] no more than a week.

Chinese military sources believe that any conflict will be controlled, and not spill over into other disputed areas, of which there are currently three along the 2,000 km border.

However, an Indian defense expert, says that a conflict will not be limited, and could extend into the Indian Ocean.

China is vulnerable in the maritime area, because China is heavily reliant on imported fuel and, according to figures published by state media, more than 80 per cent of its oil imports travel via the Indian Ocean or Strait of Malacca.

The mainstream media are focusing on North Korea but a far more serious dispute is brewing between the military giants India and China.

Should fighting break out it could expand very quickly.

Something to monitor...

The Himalayas are a darn cold and difficult place to fight and the ground is hardly worth fighting over. They have been skirmishing there for decades and I don't see any reason why they should stir it up there now. What I do expect is that sometime in the future they will fight over and about the Mekong delta of Indochina (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand) and it's rice growing potential.
The when of it will come when one or both becomes critically short of food.

Not as far as I could (virtually) throw it. Still, sometimes it's instructive to read propaganda.

I have often said to people that much you hear on the news can be simply reversed to find the truth.

If you bothered to read the article Breibart quotes Chinese and Kong Kong media sources.

if you don't like Breibart, then nothing stops you finding the equivalent news source from the Guardian, BBC etc and posting it on this thread.

Media reports indicate that both India and China have increased military deployments along their disputed border, increasing the danger that their eight-week-long standoff on the Doklam Plateau—a ridge in the Himalayan foothills claimed by both China and Bhutan—could cascade into war.

Beijing is said to have stationed 800 People’s Liberation Army troops near to where 300 Chinese troops are deployed on the Doklam Plateau “eyeball-to-eyeball” from Indian forces. Some Indian sources are also claiming that China has sent Chengdu J-9 and J-10 fighter jets to Tibet and deployed surface-to-air missile batteries near its disputed border with the northeast Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.

The Indian Army, meanwhile, has ordered troops from its 3rd and 4th Corps to move closer to the Line of Actual Control that separates Arunachal Pradesh from Chinese Tibet and placed them in high-alert, “No War, No Peace mode.

WSWS is a solid Marxist news source. Worth reading.

I would not consider a "solid Marxist" news source worth reading except in a Know your enemy sort of way.
I distrust all media sources more and more each year as I age and become more cynical with good reason. I know of no media news source that presents just the facts with a bias free selection of what facts to report each day.

I agree; its focus reverses the usual money-before-people stance.

Google is censoring it, so it has to be worth supporting!
