There's a bloke in the comments on there trying to tell us that global warming isn't happening!!

It isn't happening fast enough, that's for sure.

You can't blame that on the article writer. Many comments written on many subjects are total rubbish, often not even to do with the subject.

Yes. You have to be extremely selective about the web comments sections you choose to dive into. Many, such as The Telegraph's, can be middens.

Written letters 'to the editor' are the only 'comments' sections ever worth reading.

I wasn't blaming it on the article writer.

I was just amazed that the anti global warming trolls got into the comments so quickly! It is essential that they are taken to task just as quickly although I know that it is time wasted on the troll but it might influence the waverers that the trolls go after.

I see this a lot, especially if you look at 'oldest comments first'.

There are organisations - usually with clever front names such 'Americans for Prosperity' (which American would be against prosperity?) or just boring, so you're not suspicious, such as 'The Institute for Economic Affairs' - that have practically unlimited funds and are able to employ professional trolls.

And it's a simple matter: set up Google alerts for certain phrases, to be notified as-it-happens and get a few of these professionals plugging stock phrases into comments' sections. Nice work if you can get it.
