All he needs to do then is get out of England undetected or the damned Yankees will have him.

The US will probably get Mossad to top him.

It is entirely possible that he gets extradited to the USA from the UK. Since the change in government I think attitudes have changed in the USA. If he leaves the Embassy he could be prosecuted under UK laws (for doing a runner).

Sure, but no longer can establishment stooges like you, who want him done like a turkey for exposing vicious American war crimes and human rights abuses, try to pretend this is all about Assange fleeing justice for rape. He'd accept a 6 month prison sentence for fleeing bail, and walk away with the moral high ground, having made both the UK government and the justice system look awful. I suspect he'd actually receive nothing but a suspended sentence. It's not about that. It's about extradition to the US, and always has been.

A lot of people who have been saying "Rapist!" for the last 5 years are already saying "Don't celebrate yet, the Americans still want him!", having changed their tune mid-bar. Don't forget the UN has ruled he is a political prisoner and the UK is under quite serious legal and moral pressure to respect international asylum law. He has been rotting in that embassy because people like you conspired to create an impasse. That impasse is now broken. Yes, the US still want him, and yes the UK could still extradite him, but at least now nobody can pretend this is about anything else. That is major progress.

Unlike the Swedish authorities, Theresa May is not going to be able to pretend his plight has nothing to do with the Americans wanting him. At least, she won't be able to do so without suffering political damage she does not need right now. Her initial response was "Nothing to do with me guvnor! It is a police matter." Yeah, right. That is not going to fly for very long.

Five years, 19th June 2017.

How much would you want to lose even one year of your life?

For those remaining half-dozen liars out there, the article is overt confirmation that Assange is avoiding Swedish and US extradition, not false and trumped-up rape allegations.

I accept the point that the Trump administration made it clear they were more likely to go after Assange. However, it remains the case that he would be safer from US extradition in Sweden than the UK.

Sweden has nothing to do with this anymore.

Have they withdrawn the EAW?

I know he could be arrested simply for going on the run - although that would be silly.

A couple of years ago I dealt with a mother and 15 year old son who escaped from the Zimbabwean embassy and were not caught, but they were not high profile (in fact there were court orders controlling publicity).
