This article in the Economist talks about the importance of lifelong learning. When it came through on my email it was adjacent to an article about Trump. I thought the juxtaposition of the two articles very relevant, even though the article on Trump wasn't about anything to do with learning.

Perhaps politicians should have to undergo so many hours of training every year in registered training establishments to help them keep up with new technology. It might make them more accepting of things like Climate Change if they had even an inkling of the science behind it.

I said registered establishments in the hope of avoiding institutions set up by people like the Homeland Institute which peddle propaganda rather than education.

Unless the politicians had a suitable upbringing, they are unlikely to learn anything, and what little they do learn they will use inappropriately.
