Yea, scary at first, but I have two objections:

1) There wont be time to implement this. The crash will come first.

2) It can only work with cats and dogs and horses and such who dont understand what they are carrying. Humans are to intelligent and will immedeately start to use such a device for fraud. It is built with industry standard stuff, and a guy like me would not rest until I had learned how to spoof the things.

Hey! Would it not be great to be scanned as someone else when you fill up your car and drive away without paying? I imagine carrying 10-15 different ID's enclosed in a shielded box, and picking out the one I want for scanning. The scanner dont see if it is implanted or not. It would be just wonderful to have a scanner all the time and pick up everyone's ID as I walk by. I was an early adopter of Network Stumbler and the Pringles antennae, and I watched encrypted sattellite TV without paying. That is before I lost interest in TV.

I think that highlights the thing that came out of the Star Wars programme; the more sophisticated the technology the easier it is to defeat!

It would only take a few people that have ? err ? ?faulty chips? ? for the whole thing to be a waste of time if the government would like to use it instead of ID cards. Still for the intention given it could still be of use. Bit like an electronic dog tag.

Perhaps even just wrapping backing foil around the area would mean you could choose when "they" could scan you.

Being able to switch ID's would be great tho - esp if the whole infrastruture is based on this not being possible, and hence no other checks are made.

Perhaps we should PUSH for such, since if it replaced all other forms of ID check but is so easy to bend, it would be good news in the long run !
