Rob Hopkins came up with an interesting suggestion yesterday:

Quote:
I just came across a wonderful piece on the Relocalisation Network (via. Energy Bulletin) by Ch?rie McGregor called ?A party plan for raising peak oil awareness?. It?s simple premise, that is so obvious and wonderful that I am sat wondering why no-one had thought of it before! The idea is basically to use the ?party plan? model used so successfully by companies like Tupperware and Anne Summers to communicate ideas of peak oil and relocalisation. Fantastic!

I've been slipping ideas into people's coffee for a bit now.... I mean their coffee breaks!

Party Plan Peak Oil may come up against a problem:
Those that attend are already aware... those that don't want to know won't attend!

It may work for others, but for me, I'm going for the simple coffee-break dissemination method:

-Throw the idea around once in a while over coffee.
-Use the 'Have you heard of...' or 'What do you think about....' format.
-Discuss further only if someone asks questions.
-Never argue over coffee to convince those not ready.
-Back off if folk are adament oil will last forever.
-Simply suggest they google 'Peak Oil' for themselves as a parting shot then change the subject.
-If they come back later - listen enthusiastically to all they've found out!

Light the taper, but let people deal with the information in their own time.

Well that's how I handle spreading the word....

Inspiration not indoctrination!

Sal

The reason why PartyPlan worked was that people actually wanted the Tupperware and Anne Summers products (well, Anne Summers anyway). Peak Oil is not really a longed for product.
